Barack Obama vs. The Sellouts

As we stand on the footsteps of greatness and creating something that could leave an indelible imprint on the minds on generations to come, there are always those who would work against change even at the cost of selling out. Barack Obama stands as that change agent who fearlessly finds himself as the first person of color to be taken seriously for the office of the President of the United States, yet look who’s turning their backs on him, some of the most important voices in Black Leadership, Black Intellectuals, and important voices in the most powerful and influential music on the planet, Hip Hop.

You would think after Obama received an endorsement from one of, if not the most powerful, women on the planet, Oprah Winfrey, that many important African-Americans would follow suit, right? You would think that after a state like Iowa, who’s population consist of 93% white people, endorsed Obama, his own would follow suit right? You would think that a state like South Carolina, where the confederate flag stills flies over the state building, could put aside its racist past for change, that a place like Harlem would rally around Barack, no brain-er right? Wrong, look at them one by one going against Barack due to special interest and ignorance. Why else would so-called pro-black figures like Bob Johnson, Magic Johnson, Russell Simmons, and others who turned their backs on the one figure who could serve as the real example that African-American kids can really grow up to be more than just sports figures and entertainers?

Where’s the Hip Hop community? Where’s loud mouth Diddy? After his failed Rock the Vote campaign of 04,’ this could’ve served as his moment of redemption. Where’s Jay-Z? Why’s 50 Cent endorsing Hilary Clinton? Well as expected Kanye West stepped up to the plate, yet his little weak under study Lupe Fiasco is backing Hilary, wow! Yet, Lupe is apart of the so-called backpacking conscience of Hip Hop. Well please explain to me what kind of consciousness allows you to turn coward in the moment of truth?

For all the non-sense they try to feed you about experience and how they need somebody in the White House who’s ready to go on day one, well most of these suckers were the same people who gave an inexperienced Bush the keys to the hot seat twice. You see I say all this to say, sometimes that “Black empowerment” shit is about as weak the mouth it comes out of when ones actions are a total contradiction and if we let them get away with it, that ain’t right.
